Moniek Merkx is not only a writer and playwright, but she is also a director and teacher in Amerstdam,
Holland. She went to school at the University of Amersterdam for a degree in theatre and visual arts. After college she received
an internship from Studio's Onafhakelijk Toneel in Rotterdam. This internship eventually became a lifelong career when she
became the dramaturg and the assistant director.
Merkx started working as a freelance dramaturg, writer, and director in 1986. She worked with numerous theater
and dance companies throughout her home country of Holland. Starting in 1994, Merkx began focusing her plays on children.
She worked closely with Theatre Artemis to produce these wonderful plays. In 2003, she continued her pursuit to become a well-known
children's playwright. She became the Artistic Director of Maccus, a well known children's theater company.
